Selinda's update
Mwapona Buti? (How are you doing?) We hope this update finds you doing well. It is hard to believe that summer is over and school is starting again. We are doing fine as home ministries is picking up. In August we spoke at Churches in three States and one province. Needless to say it was a lot of miles traveled, about 3300.
Thank you for your continued financial and prayer support. Both are appreciated very much. You are a valued member of our support team.
We met a lot of new friends along the way, and got reconnected with a few old friends. In addition to our speaking engagements we had many meetings with pastors along our route. The meetings were a chance to meet with fellow Wesleyans and share our ministry in Zambia with them, but also to get to know them and see what God is doing through them and their ministries. God is working everywhere and it was encouraging to see.
One thing we came away with from those meetings was that no matter what country we are working in we are all working together for the same goal, to see people’s lives changed by the truth of God’s love and word. It reminds of this passage in Romans 12:4-8. Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
A couple of interesting happenings in our travels were the Little League World Series and Hurricane Irene. We were in central Pennsylvania the same time the Little League World Series was happening and a local Pennsylvania team was in the tournament. There were people everywhere. So we had to stay about an hour away from the Hillview Wesleyan Church because all the hotels were full. All the people we talked to were very excited and proud of their local Pennsylvania team.
We were in New Brunswick at Beulah camp when hurricane Irene hit. We did not get much rain but lots of strong wind. A large number of trees were broken down as a result of the wind and Beulah camp did not have power for two days. It was an inconvinence, but it ended up a great time to get to know our neighbors here as we were all in the same boat and looking out for each other. We had a good shared meal with our neighbors and a camp fire with marshmallows on the beach.
Prayer Requests:
- Safety in our travels
- For the fundraising process
- For the sick and dying in Zambia
