Ukraine Update

Blessings from Odessa, Ukraine.

September  8, 2011

You know the story of trying to teach an OLD dog NEW tricks?  Well for the past several months I have been trying to write a blog so that everyone could go to the blog whenever they wanted to find out what was going on in Ukraine.  I just couldn’t make it work and there are SO many GOOD things going on, I just can’t wait another minute to tell you.  I have to say this has been the “bestest” year of our work in Ukraine (since Sept 2004) because God is working miracles all around us. We refuse to give Satan a foothold and I believe it is because many of YOU are praying.  THIS IS GOD’s WORK.

I think I will need to write many newsletters over the next few weeks to help you understand the growth and love that has taken over.   My apologies for being silent but we were trying to make a newsletter that we could attach to our World Hope Canada website but for now bear with us.

As my husband would say, let’s make a long story short so here it is in some kind of order.

  1. CIDA (the Canadian International Development Agency) gave us a wonderful grant to set up the LIFE-START program.  LIFE START allowed us to take extra girls into Hope House this summer (to get used to living outside of the orphanage). I think at one time we had 24 girls coming and going.   The program allows World Hope to place girls into a “foster home” situation where they will live with trained parents who will love and care for them.  Imagine that, some of our girls are NOW in loving homes with real parents.  We are so excited.  Of course to do this we have to help raise our portion of the CIDA grant, meaning if you give $1.00 CIDA will give $3.00.  That’s a pretty good deal isn’t it?
This year’s garden was the best it has ever been. We have filled the cold room and the freezer with many vegetables and fruits, ready for winter. Never before has our cold room been so full. We have approximately (I say this because we are adding to it daily) the following items.
285 bottles (various sizes) of strawberry jam
50 5lb bags of frozen strawberries
110 bottles (various sizes) of plumb jam
22 bottles of cherry jam
360 3L bottles of pickled whole cucumbers.
30 3L bottles of pickled whole tomatoes
25 3L bottles of pickled zucchini
60 bottles (various sizes) of mustard pickles
1000 plus yellow melons.  The girls picked and ate them all over the summer.
50 3L bottles of ready-to-go tomato spaghetti sauce
30 3L bottles of pickled summer squash
50 huge freezer packs of frozen peppers (with another 300 peppers still on the plants)
40 packs of frozen corn with probably 60 plus more to come.... (Still 1000 cobs in the garden since this is our third crop this summer)
Space won’t allow me to write anymore at this time so I will continue my TWIU over the next week.  Put your hats on and prepare to be BLESSED!
